Maax Spas, once a prominent name in the Australian spa industry, faced a series of challenges that significantly impacted its presence and distribution in the country. Operating under various entities over the years, Maax Spas’ branding and dealer network in Australia created market confusion and inconsistency for consumers.
The company’s Australian presence was most notably represented by Maax Spa Corporation Pty Ltd, a Victorian manufacturer founded by Russel Devenish in 1999, who was also an owner of Monarch Spas & Spa World. He bought Hibiscus spas in 1999 and created Maax Spas.
Maax Spa Corporation not only produced spas under its own name but also manufactured spas for Aquatic Leisure Technologies under the Jadan Spas and Spa Showcase brands.
By 2010, Many Maax Spas dealers in Australia either closed down, went into receivership, or switched to other brands. This severely affected product availability, spare parts access, and customer support. Compounding these issues were regulatory challenges in the Australian spa market—particularly around electrical approvals and compliance—resulting in further complications for both distributors and customers.
Ultimately, Maax Spa Corporation Pty Ltd entered liquidation, with the business being wound down and its assets—including stock, moulds, plant, and equipment—being offered for sale by the appointed liquidator.
Many customers have had to turn to independent sources for parts and technical assistance, such as Heater & Spa Parts, which remains a key supplier of spare parts suitable for Maax Spas models.
